The return of STAN SMITH

Adidas Stan Smith is a tennis shoe made by Adidas. Nowadays, the shoe is not used for tennis, but as sneakers. Stan Smith is an American tennis player and former Wimbledon champ. He first endorsed a pair of Adidas trainers in 1971 and since then, the shoes that bear his name have found favor with sub-cultures and sneaker heads the world over.

In 1960’s, the first Adidas tennis shoe was produced, which was the first ever leather tennis shoe and marked the beginning of a long line of classic Adidas shoes and in 1971, the model was renamed the "Adidas Stan Smith” after the acclaimed tennis champion Stan Smith, who was ranked World No. 1 at the time.

The shoe, usually made with a white leather upper and laces, has a simple design. Unlike most Adidas shoes, it does not have the external three stripes. Instead there are three rows of perforations on both sides of each shoe's leather upper in the same pattern that should symbolize the three ordinary stripes. The design and form of the shoe has basically stayed the same since it was introduced, but several new versions and color ways have appeared during the years.

Adidas has given the shoes a subtle upgrade with premium leather throughout while still keeping the classic good looks. That means that the green heel tab with “Stan Smith” is there, as is the classic tongue logo featuring Smith’s likeness. The sportswear maker has given the shoes a modern twist with new colors, while staying true to the look and shape of the original.

Stan Smith claims that most modern consumers do not realize the shoes are named after him adding the shoes have “taken on a life of their own”. So all the die hard Stan Smith and Adidas fan’s, you will not have to wait for long to get these sneakers in your collection. Are you as excited as I am?
